Evening of Peace Toolkit - Teach Peace's Evening of Peace is a joyful way to help peace organizations with the major challenges of collaboration and fund raising.
What You Need To Get Started1. Read about the 2007 version of the program, the Teach Peace song, and FAQs.
Below are two Powerpoint presentations shown at the 2007 Evening of Peace.
2. Consider how you would change it for your specific location and desired events.3. Review the Teach Peace Speakers Bureau for people that may be able to serve as speakers.4. Send an e-mail with your phone number to contact@teachpeace.com.
Optional Items1. Prior experience organizing events or attend a Teach Peace Week of Peace prior to trying to lead one.2. Consider adding an extra movie or music event to replace the Candidate for Congress debate.3. It is perfectly acceptable to only have fewer than 7 events during a week of peace.Consider adding an extra movie or music event to replace the Candidate for Congress4. Consider having your town or city declare the week, A Week of Peace. 5. Contact local progressive radio stations and ask them if they will co-sponsor the event with you. This can result in thousands of dollars of free advertising. 6. Write to your local papers and ask that they help raise awareness of the event.
Tips Before You Start1. Consider having one event led by a different peace organization to keep the time and initial expenses (which good planning will recover and actually surpass) of executing a Week of Peace more manageable.
Now That You Are Ready - This Is What You Do1. Establish the date. We recommend during the September 21 because it is the International Day of Peace but this is up to you.2. Determine student leaders for the dinner.3. You may also need to arrange event insurance. If you do you can find insurance providers by searching for "event insurance" on the Internet.4. Establish a publicity committee.5. Print the tickets and flyers.6. Get the word out via radio, TV, print and word of mouth.7. Have a great Evening of Peace.
