Stand Up For Peace ToolkitParticipation in the Stand Up For Peace collage is often a person's first "active" action in the peace movement. You can help with that first step by leading a Stand Up For Peace event.
What You Need To Get Started1. A clipboard, two black markers and two black pens (available for a few dollars at most office supply stores).2. A digital camera with extra batteries (digital cameras for as little as $20 can often be found on eBay).3. A sample Stand Up For Peace collage, click here to see and then print one.4. Authorization forms so that we can display the photo on the Internet, in newspapers, in other materials like the Teach Peace brochure, and offer Teach Peace membership. Click here to see and print an authorization form.
Optional Items1. Extra clipboards, markers and pens.2. Teach Peace Polo or T-Shirt.3. teach peace Brochure, click here to see and then print or request a supply from contact@teachpeace.com.4. Name tags stickers (available for a few dollars at most office supply stores).5. teach peace Gift of Hope Catalogue, click here to see and then print or request a supply from contact@teachpeace.com.6. For a major event, Teach Peace has a professional canopy. This is large enough to comfortably fit an eight foot table underneath. To use the canopy, contact us at contact@teachpeace.com.7. Teach Peace has a sign that is eight feet long and about 2.5 feet high. 8. Teach Peace products (e.g., T-shirts, lapel pins, American Hiroshima books, etc.)
Tips Before You Start1. Do not have other people in the background of the photo. Be sure to obtain written permission from each person that is in a photo.2. Practice how to use your camera and know how to show people their picture.
Now That You Are Ready - This Is What You Do1. Greet people with a smile.2. Say hello, my name is __________________.3. Inform by saying: "We are sending a peace collage around the world to let people know we care and want to end the Iraq war."4. Show the person the sample Stand Up For Peace collage.5. Ask by saying: Will you join thousands of others by standing up for peace? It takes just a minute or two.6. If no go to number 9 below and if yes, remind people that the sign they make be only a few words and with large letters that can be seen.8. Take their photo and go to number 11 below.9. In the no or no thank you situation, please note that this is valuable because you may have an opportunity to talk to this person about either their support for the war or silent opposition.10. Remind people who oppose the war but do not want to participate that silence is permission.11. In the yes situation, ask them to complete the authorization form after you take their photo. Let them know that by completing the form and providing their e-mail address, we will be able to send an e-mail to them so that they can see their picture on our website. In addition, offer free membership as described on the photo authorization form.12. Consider inviting the person to a Teach Peace meeting and giving them the Brochure and Gift of Hope Catalogue.13. Mention our Week of Peace and invite the person to join us.14. Thank the person regardless of the outcome.
Please send improvements to this Toolkit to contact@teachpeace.com.
